Weston Centre: The Beginning
When the new 30-story, $85-million office building at Pecan and Soledad Streets opened its doors for the first time in 1989, it faced an uncertain future. Originally planned as the stunning new headquarters for NBC Bank, it was the tallest office building in San Antonio and one of the few Class A office buildings in the city. But even as it opened, its future was already uncertain.

The devastating downturn in Texas economy in the late 1980s also took a toll on San Antonio. NBC Bank and the building landlord, Century Corp of Houston, both became insolvent and the property was taken over by one of the bank’s lenders. The building became known simply as the 112 East Pecan Street Building, but such was its appeal as a top-quality office building that it became home to some of the best organizations in the city, many of whom are still tenants today.

The name remained 112 East Pecan for several years until, in December 1992, an investment group led by local businessman Graham Weston closed on the purchase of the building after a successful bid at a distressed property auction. The building took on the name of its owner – Weston Centre.
